Let's get into it. Simply put, family sharing allows you to share many of the PlayStation Plus benefits with other members of your family. So long as one account on the PlayStation 4 has PS Plus and is set as the primary account for that console, anyone who signs into that console with another PlayStation Network account will be able to share much of its benefits and play any digital games associated with it.

Family sharing also enables you to set up powerful parental control tools if you want to manage your children's usage. No matter your need, family sharing makes it less expensive and easier to use the PS4's online features with multiple accounts.

Now that the account with PS Plus is signed in and associated with your PS4 as the primary account, any other user that signs into that PS4 will be able to use its benefits. You should know, not all benefits can be used by the accounts which don't have their own PlayStation Plus subscription. We'll run them down for you.

Whether your secondary accounts need their own PS Plus subscriptions is up to you and your particular needs. If all you want is to play online and play all the games on that console, you're probably OK with just the one subscription. Those with more elaborate needs may want to consider paying for more than one subscription. That's because benefits can only be shared from the primary account to other accounts on the same console, and there can only be one primary account per console.

This also means that the second PS4 will need its own copy of the games the user wants to play on it. The only way around this is to sign into the second console with the account that has the PS Plus subscription and owns the games, and you must stay signed in on that account for the duration of your session.

Note: This step is not possible without a PlayStation Plus subscription. If you are not a member, start the process with the steps below. These trophies are likely to be lost completely should you not do this beforehand.

Before you can begin the data transfer between the two machines, you have to run an initial setup on your PlayStation 4 Pro. Follow the on-screen instructions, pair your controller, and then connect your console to the internet in the same manner you did the original system. Once connected to the internet, your PlayStation 4 Pro should begin downloading the latest system software update. Let this process finish, and wait for the console to then install the software and reboot.

You must be signed into the same PlayStation Network account on both systems, so take the time to sign in your account before switching your attention to your other PlayStation 4. Next, take an Ethernet cable — it can be practically any length — and connect each end to the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 4 Pro, respectively.

Sony advocates backing up the original PlayStation 4 to a hard drive or connecting both consoles to a router with two separate Ethernet cables, but we found the one-cable process to be much easier and surprisingly quick. After the PlayStation 4 Pro restarts, it will ask you if you wish to transfer data from an older PlayStation 4 to your new model.
